#Oregon holds the records for both the deepest lake in the United States and the smallest park in the world.

Crater Lake in Southern Oregon plunges to a depth of 1,943 feet. It was formed about 7,700 years ago when a massive volcano, Mount Mazama, collapsed after an eruption. Because the lake is fed almost entirely by rain and snow—with no rivers flowing in or out to bring in sediment—it is considered one of the clearest and most pristine bodies of water on Earth.

On the complete opposite end of the size spectrum, Portland is home to Mill Ends Park—which is literally a two-foot-wide circle of dirt in a traffic median. It was officially recognized by the Guinness Book of Records in 1971. Originally intended to be the site for a light pole, weeds grew in the hole instead, prompting a local journalist to plant flowers and name it a park. Today, it usually houses a single small tree and occasionally miniature figurines left by locals.
